She has a wonderful bright nature & we loved her cooking and the cooking class we did with our grand daughter. Tuscan is a beautiful area & we thoroughly enjoyed spending time with our family here.

We had a great time sharing the Farmhouse with a couple from Rome, during the week of May 20, and enjoying time with Julia and her guests at the main house, too.
Lucca and the area included many new discoveries for us.
The property itself was perfect - so quiet and private and yet convenient to Lucca & beyond.
The kitchen was a delight to cook in, and we had several meals al fresco on the terrace. The garden is so beautiful and well kept.
Donatella was amazing, made us feel so at home right away and cooked up some delicious meals and made pizzas at the main house.
We would definitely love to come back sometime soon.

Perfect for pure relaxation
This is the perfect place for pure relaxation. Donatella easily prepared super tasty pizzas for us. We had a wonderful holiday with perfect weather although the autumn already started.

Pure tuscany...
Just beautiful! The villa was super comfortable, there was everything you need and more. We were simply impressed. Even had a bit of a hassle during the week to have used every room at least once, as there are many comfortable secondary places (bedrooms) to stay. As in previous reviews, the approach is described as adventurous.
That is exactly right. It is adventurous and with a wider or longer care very adventurous but doable. The view is just great, you have to accept the approach. You won't regret it!

What a fantastic farmhouse.
First holiday since 2011. Six adults and one toddler. What a fantastic farmhouse. The views are stunning and it is so peaceful. We had everything we needed in the house. Swimming pool was so refreshing.
We can highly recommend Donatella's PIZZA Night. We ate until we could eat no more sitting in front of the house, looking over the valley & watching the fireflies. She even made Grandpa (Nanno) a birthday cake!
Also we did the Tuscan Cookery Course in the farmhouse. Fabulous experience. we made a typical Tuscan 4 course lunch from scratch - including ravioli - we will be trying this at home. Lovely couple who ran the course.
Four of us went on a day's Wine tasting Tour. Really interesting met some lovely vineyard owners. All 3 vineyards very different. Great experience and a lovely driver Andrea. We would definitely come back to La Pianella to explore Tuscany more.

Superb villa in a stunning location and exceptional hosts who made us feel so welcome. Among the many highlights was the sumptuous Tuscan dinner prepared by Donatella, the Estate Manager. Scary drive up the mountain to the villa which took some getting used to. Not for the faint hearted!

What a wonderful week....
what a wonderful week here at the farmhouse. The Carrefour supermarket have got the best Anitpasti in the whole Lucca area. Carciofi, pomodori vecchi, cipolle rosse, olive verdi & burrata were always part of our late lunch or dinner. To top everything we enjoyed a glass of bubbles or red wine to add to it.
Lucca is such a beautiful city where you can go to any restaurant and enjoy Italian home-made food.
Tanks to Donatella for the best PIZZA made here in the oven. A massage and manicure is highly recommended by L'altra Donatella. Thanks to Naomi and Christian for such a wonderful stay together. We love you Italy and of course the La Pianella Estate!

Donatella's cooking is excellent and highly recommend it. We spent a wonderful and relaxing vacation here, only the access road made us sweat a bit when we arrived. The weather was perfect and the pool cooled us down. Very good barbeque and pizza oven. Very friendly staff. Very clean.

Exceptional holiday
Great accommodation surrounded by olive trees with amazing views down the valley. Very comfortably furnished and well equipped with all that you'd need for a perfect self-catering holiday. There are many areas within the property where one can sit and relax, including a lovely lounge and superb mezzanine. The bedrooms are all comfortably furnished with plenty of space; the bathrooms all included a good selection of toiletries.
Outside the property provides a fantastic pool with a large lawned area to sit or play. There are plenty of sun loungers and relaxing pool-side chairs to make the most of the sunshine and views - there are also parasols to provide shade around the pool and the outside dining area.
On arrival we found an exceptional welcome basket containing a wide variety of fruit a couple of bottles of wine and, best of all, olive oil from the La Pianella Estate.
The local team that look after the property were extremely attentive and helpful. Whilst we were there we had a problem with the fridge-freezer but this was quickly resolved within a couple of hours - exceptional service with a high focus on the needs and comfort of guests.
Access to the property from the village is via a narrow, winding road and whilst this was a little daunting at first we soon got used to it even with a 8-seater van.
The village of San Martino in Freddana includes a well stocked supermarket, an ice cream parlour and bakery - all just a short drive from the villa.
During our week long holiday we visited Lucca, a lovely historic city, with plenty of places of interest and restaurants/cafes. In addition, we caught a train from Lucca to Pisa to enjoy visiting the famous Leaning Tower and other beautiful buildings on this historic sight.
We would highly recommend this farmhouse villa.

Well-equipped and very beautifully located farmhouse villa with splendid views on the surrounding hills. Very quiet and peaceful with everything you need in close proximity. Cities Lucca, and Pisa easily reachable for a day trip. The last 1.5 km drive up to the house is a steep and narrow road, not ideal to drive on! This is the only downside however, everything else is just great.

Incredibly beautiful and peaceful vacation home
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at La Pianella farmhouse. It had all the comforts of home and the most beautiful views of the surrounding countryside. The pool was the perfect temperature and had plenty of seating. The roads were hilly and very curvy though so we opted to not drive on our own. Andrea runs an excellent car service that took us on trips to the hilltop villages of San Gimignano and Volterra along with a day trip to Cinque Terre. Donatella cooked a very filling meal featuring typical Tuscan cuisine. The only slight inconvenience was the lack of air conditioning, however the fans provided helped to keep the house cool enough. And if you really get too hot you can always jump in the pool!

5* beautiful villa!
We felt fortunate to stay at the beautiful Pianella farmhouse villa for a week.
The views were incredible and the atmosphere so serene and relaxing. The villa itself is quite spacious and we appreciated having a bathroom for each bedroom. The pool area was our favourite and had plenty of chairs and umbrellas to take cover under. Even without AC the home usually stayed cool enough with the use of the many fans provided. The kitchen was well equipped, having everything you needed for cooking meals at home. Donatella cooked one night for us and the meal was quite large and included many of the rich local dishes. She was also readily available for help if needed – such as driving us into town for groceries. We weren’t comfortable driving ourselves up the twisty narrow road so this was especially appreciated! We used Andrea’s driving service for trips into the hill towns, the Chianti wine region and the Cinque Terre. They had safe and helpful drivers. Overall a heavenly place to spend a week or more!

Tranquil & peaceful with wonderful views
A short break in the hills of Lucca in a Tuscan farmhouse where everything was taken care of by our marvelous hosts, Mary Ann & Colin. Nothing was too much for this attentive couple and we were treated like family in the short time we stayed there.
The farmhouse has all you need to make your holiday comfortable and relaxing. Local supermarket not too far and plenty of restaurants to eat out.
It’s a steep assent up the “HELTER-SKELTER” road to the farmhouse but once you’re there you’ll be delighted with the fabulous vistas from all directions.

Stunning villa with amazing views
We stayed in the farmhouse in August and it was a first-rate holiday. The villa is very luxurious and has the most fantastic views down the valley. The pool area is stunning and the upper lounge which has full glass folding doors on two sides is the best place in the world to have a late night glass of red whilst talking nonsense with your friends. Lucca is just 15 minutes in the care and it’s just over an hour to Florence., so it’s perfectly located and only an hour and half drive to the beaches. A stunning place to spend a week or two.

I have stayed at both properties in recent years. It is quite simply the most stunning villa and location I have ever come across! Everything from the amenities to the lush Tuscan views oozes class and I can not imagine staying I a place that is as perfect as La Pianella!

After negotiating the road up to the Farmhouse, we felt entirely relaxed and cared for during our 7 night stay by the excellent caretakers Valeria and her husband. The home is spotless with a well-stocked kitchen and modern bathrooms; yet it retains its historic character beautifully. We all LOVED the salt water pool and enjoyed a dip after a day's sightseeing in nearby Lucca, Pisa, San Gimniano, Siena and Florence. We enjoyed three dinners prepared for us by the amazing Donatella and her daughter, Sonia - a real treat with Tuscan specialties. The house commands a lovely view over the valley which we enjoyed every day; truly a memorable and happy time together.

We hired both La Pianella Villa and the Farmhouse for our wedding. Whilst we chose to stay in the main villa we had close family and friends stay in the farmhouse villa. To say that this place is amazing is an understatement. No lack of thought / investment has gone into the refurbishment of this property from the luxury bathrooms to the stunning breakfast room. The view from this villa is better than any painting and you can stand there for hours taking in the stunning scenery and surrounding. The location is great with lots of small villages with excellent restaurants around, the pool and gardens are well maintained and possibly the cleanest I have ever swum in. Every part of this villa screams luxury and tranquility

Just returned from a wonderful week with my husband and friends at La .Pianella Villa. Beautifully restored and immaculately clean. Pictures don't do it justice. Every amenity is thought of - fully stocked kitchen, WIFI, and TV. There are beautiful views from every window.
The salt water pool is surrounded by olive trees which are lit at dusk. Very unique. It is very peaceful and ideallic. The owner lives nearby and was in residence when we were threre. She kindly checked on us from time to time in case we needed anything.
Day trips to Lucca, wineries, Cinque Terre, and beaches are possible and we took advantage of all of them. You must either have a car or hire a driver.

We have recently returned from a fabulous week at La Pianella farmhouse. Our initial trepidation at the narrow steep road to the house was quickly replaced by amazement at the house, grounds and views. The farmhouse had everything and more that we needed and catered excellently for our party of 4 couples, especially as each room had lovely views and a private bathroom. The house is beautifully decorated and furnished to a high quality and it had a lovely salt water pool. There is a very well stocked supermarket in the village which was very handy. It was lovely to meet the owners and their friends whilst we were there and they helped make our stay a memorable one. Mary Ann showed us around the larger villa which is also very well furnished and is ideal for a large gathering. Valeria, Enzo and Donatella, the property managers were very welcoming and made us feel comfortable and at home and were available if we needed anything. The property is ideal for visiting Lucca and the coast which are a short car journey away. It was easy to take the train from Lucca to Pisa and Florence and to venture further afield into the heart of Tuscany by car. We couldn’t have asked for a better place to stay as it ticked all the boxes and more. We would have no hesitation in recommending the villa to anyone. It is a truly wonderful place – thanks!

It was in October 2013. It was not the usual journey for us. We chose Villa La Pianella to relax, to get acquainted with Tuscany, to celebrate the wedding of my brother. And we were absolutely right in our choice.
Sorry for my English, but I'll try to describe my memories about Villa La Pianella - the place I love:
Beautiful, hospitable, distinctive, comfortable, romantic, heartwarming, pleasantly, stylish, great, fantastic, charming etc.
I really recommend Villa La Pianella, if you want to feel Tuscany!

We spent a fabulous week at the Farmhouse Villa with 2 other couples, it was amazing. The owners made the booking process very easy and made us feel at ease throughout the process. The villa and the grounds are maintained to a very high standard, the rooms are spacious and well laid out. The pool area and patio are very beautiful with amazing views and tiered olive trees The Villa is close to Pisa, Florence, Lucca and Cinque Terre, we visited all during our stay. Donatella and her daughter cooked for us every night and the food was better than any restaurant and the great thing was that we never had to leave the Villa. Donatella has a charming personality and we quickly became friends and look forward to seeing her again. The property is even better than the pictures which is rarely the case. We are looking forward to returning again some day soon. Thank you for the great vacation.

We spent two weeks at La Pianella with family and young adult friends. The pool is wonderful and the view from the house and pool is magnificent. The bedrooms and bathrooms were all lovely but in Italian style there isn't any air conditioning which in fact, we like. We made good use of the bar-b-q and the pizza oven. The villa is near the beautiful walled town of Lucca and is positioned halfway between the beach and Florence where we went for day trips. The owners are very helpful and friendly before booking. One slight work of caution might be the rather steep drive up to the property with a couple of sharp turns.

We rented the Farmhouse at La Pianella for 2 weeks in September 2012 and had a fabulous holiday with 6 of our friends and everyone was of the same opinion that the accommodation is 1st. Class and the location is even better than the pictures on the web site.

With car hire it is ideally located for visiting places such as lucca pisa florence viareggio barga and many more. The pool is of good size, and all around you are those amazing views. The owner was very nice and made you feel welcome and if you have any questions about where to travel to or what restaurants to go to they were happy to help. We would highly recommend this property to friends.

A perfect holiday home
We stayed at the Farm House of La Pianella for three weeks in August 2010. Having ample experience with renting houses in the summer we can honestly say that we have never stayed in a property that was better equipped and presented. We immediately felt at home in a house that by design and lay-out can easily take eight and also is comfortable when you want to stay home on a rainy day. The property has lovely views, and is generously proportioned throughout. The kitchen has everything a keen cook would be looking for, the top sitting room with its lovely views is absolutely amazing and all bed rooms, with their own bathrooms, are very comfortable. The owners have clearly invested in quality and comfort. The Farm House offers privacy and is ideally located. Lucca is close by and Viarreggio and Pisa are within easy reach. Want to visit Florence? Take the train from Lucca. Comfortable and there is a regular service.

La pianella farmhouse villa
I have hired both these lovely houses and with my friends, had wonderful holidays.The location is a hilltop with beautiful views of the wooded hills and villages surrounding. You can watch the smoke from a tiny fire rise in a column in the still morning air whilst sitting on the terrace enjoying breakfast in the sun or shade.The Villa is a classical house with all modern amenities. Each bedroom is different with terraces and balconies, comfortable beds and interestingly tiled bathrooms. The Farmhouse is a modern reconstruction,very tastefully designed and decorated.I have enjoyed the facilities and had no problems.There are people who would help out willingly if needed. The road that winds it's way up the hillside is steep and has sharp bends but we had no problems with it. There is a super swimming pool and an all weather tennis court where even the least sporty members of our parties have joined in our tennis tournaments.I like painting and have found plenty of delightful subjects,as have many previous guests who have donated their work to grace the walls. In the evenings we have baked our own pizzas in the traditional ovens with the dough bought from the baker or supermarket in the village below. It's lovely to eat on the terrace in the evening enjoying the company whilst watching the fireflies and listening to the cicadas. There are plenty of restaurants in villages around,from small and charming family run to grand and expensive.All we have tried have been welcoming.Our best meals have been those we have cooked together as a team. We love Lucca. A favourite City (lots to paint!).Just watching the world go by with a gorgeous chocolate or Italian speciality dish is all you need between visiting the stylish shops and museums or taking a walk or bicycle ride around the city walls A trip to the Opera is a romantic essential. We took the service bus to Florence. Why take the car ?I can't remember any thing that we needed. I wish we could stay all spring and Autumn. I don't go in Summer as I don't like the heat but I believe the mountain air makes the temperature agreeable and there's always the nice swimming pool! We have taken different friends.All had a great time. I can't think of any draw-backs. 5/5

Beyond expectations!
My wife and friends enjoyed a very pleasant stay at La Pianella Farm Villa and it was beyond our expectations. The newly renovated Villa was immaculate with a well-stocked kitchen and beautiful views looking out from every window. The salt water pool was very refreshing and was surrounded by olive trees that were lit in the evening. Deserving of special attention however is the cook Donatella Pizzi. She is definitely an asset to the Villa. She is available upon request and will email menus if you would like to choose your meals before your visit. We had hired her to cook the night we arrived and the night before we left but her cooking was so delicious that we hired her for two more nights and would have hired her every night if we had not made prior committments. She is very cheerful and endearing and her daughter Sonia decorated the tables with flowers before every meal whether we ate al fresco by the pool or in the dining room. One evening she made seven different pizzas for us and they all were very tasty. Campari and wine and dessert accompanies dinner. I encourage anyone renting the Villa to experience at least one of Donatella's culinary delights. It was a wonderful week in Tuscany.

The villa was immaculately presented, both in cleanliness and design
Our extended family of seven, recently spent a two week holiday at the Farmhouse Villa.
The directions we were given by our Host were such that the forty five minute drive from Pisa Airport was uncomplicated and direct.
We weren't prepared for the narrow windy road leading up to the Villa but once negotiated and mastered, it was neither a chore nor unduly difficult driving our nine seater vehicle up and down it daily.
Indeed, the Villa location required vehicle use for grocery shopping and all activities external to the Villa itself. We didn't go out at night. Our choice was to visit a local Pizzeria (more than once) in the village below, for a taste of delicious Italian cuisine, and prepare our own nightly meals, enjoying the benefits of the idyllic outdoor landscaped surroundings.
We had arrived earlier than occupancy time but as it was changeover day, the caretakers allowed us to leave our luggage at the house and put a few necessary grocery items in the fridge while we went off to explore the surrounds as they readied the Villa for our return. This was most appreciated.
We were not disappointed with our accommodation. The Villa was immaculately presented, both in cleanliness and design. It was tastefully and thoughtfully equipped, the kitchen having the resources to please any cook! The bedrooms were roomy with each having access to its own well appointed bathroom. The design of the Villa across four levels meant that we could all be involved in different activities, whether it was watching a movie in the family room, relaxing in the cool and airy upstairs sitting room,
partaking in the breathtaking views of the valley below, preparing food in the kitchen or cooling off in the large salt water pool. However, anyone with physical limitations may have found the stairs between each level a challenge for daily activity.
It was very warm while we were there and despite an absence of air-conditioning, the many pedestal fans supplied were adequate to keep us cool when needed, although the upper level sitting area always afforded a beautiful breeze, along with appreciable views.
We spent many hours outside, not only enjoying our evening meals on the patio near the pool but also in the pool. It was a well planned pool, unfenced and constant depth by design which meant that the amazing panorama could easily be appreciated.
It was very helpful having access to a Caretaker that spoke enough English for us to enquire about simple procedures or facilities pertinent to the Villa and local area. Our two week holiday passed very quickly. We all agreed our trip to Tuscany was memorable for many reasons, certainly the friendliness of the people we encountered and our more than comfortable accommodation proved to be the main factors.

Absolutely fantastic holiday at la pianella
I just wanted to say a very big thank you to you and your mum. We had an absolutely fantastic holiday at La Pianella and it was lovely to be able to meet your mum when she arrived with friends the day before we left. We really appreciated the attention to detail and all of the extras (fans in all of the bedrooms to cope with the hot nights etc etc etc!). David now wants to buy a salami slicer after using the one in the kitchen! The accommodation was absolutely first class and just what we needed. We would absolutely consider staying again.

Heaven on a tuscan hillside!
We have stayed at both the Villa and the Farmhouse on various occasions, and were always extremely happy to be there -- and sad to leave! Perfect for getting together with groups of friends or for family reunions, the villa and farmhouse also offer plenty of space for those who want a quiet corner to relax in peace and quiet.
All one could want is on the property (swimming pool, tennis court, books), and, though we did go to Lucca (cycling around the city wall, clothes shopping), and to other surrounding towns for little outings (great market in San Martino in Freddana), we preferred just to stay at the villa/farmhouse and relax by the pool, or to walk along the winding roads in the area. What a relaxing, nurturing place!
We will definitely be back!

The location is very central, so you can reach many different destinations very quickly.
